Couplings

Design/Project Engineering & Execution Phase

  1. Bid review, selection, specifications.
  2. Mechanical design appraisals.
  3. Lateral critical speed appraisal (simply supported tube method and finite element method.).
  4. Coupling torque measurement and monitoring.
  5. Torsional stiffness of coupling elements (1/3rd penetration, flexible elements, coupling tube).
  6. Design appraisal of coupling guard temperature and windage losses.
  7. Review of component design & construction drawings with OEM engineers/experts.
  8. Coupling balancing as per API categories – individual components and assembled stage.
  9. Installation, commissioning and inspection/examination during warrantee period.

Operational Phase

  1. Coupling malfunctions diagnosis and cure (vibration, noise, thermal signature).
  2. Best practices of coupling inspection and maintenance.
  3. Root cause investigation of distressed components, failure and restoration (flexible elements, gear teeth etc.).
  4. Remaining life assessment.
